In June 2020, the National Capital Commission (NCC) and the City of Ottawa released a new climate projections report which shows that the National Capital Region is moving into an era of rapidly shifting climate. The City of Ottawa will experience warmer and wetter seasons, putting us more at risk for extreme heat events and flooding.

Responding to this climate crisis will mean the City must move beyond good words and pilot projects to implementing real policy and spending commitments. This means not only spending more on important improvements (such as the urban forest and green infrastructure), but also spending less on actions that will harm us and the environment (such as sprawl and road widening).

We must act now. We need to enhance our green infrastructure and urban tree canopy. We need to stop sprawl. We need a real plan to monitor and protect biodiversity. Click on the petition links below to learn more and let City Hall know how important climate action is to you.
