Online Events Series

Join us this year from May to September for all sorts of different online events about biodiversity – there’s something for everyone! We’re still working on finalizing some details so be sure to check back in for even more events.


We might not be able to gather in large tour groups right now, but we are ready to take you on a field trip right through your screen! Tune in to our Facebook Page to watch a live-streamed tour of some beautiful biodiversity hot-spots in and around Ottawa led by local experts! Learn fun facts about the area, learn iNaturalist tips, and add more places to your list of must visit locations in Ottawa!

  • Saturday, June 13 at 10 am – Virtual Field Trip to Fletcher Wildlife Garden with Owen Clarkin, Chair of the Ottawa Field Naturalists’ Club. Click here to register.
  • Saturday, June 18 at 10 am – Virtual Field Trip to Petrie Island. Friends of Petrie Island (FOPI) and Ecology Ottawa have joined together to host a Virtual Tour of Petrie Island! Your tour guides will be Atirah, FOPI’s Staff and Volunteer Coordinator; and Laura, FOPI’s Children and Family Program Manager. Click here to register.

Test your skills with Trivia Tuesdays. Each week will be a different biodiversity related theme with new questions so be sure to tune in for each one! Attend our free webinars! Learn from local experts about how you can help monitor biodiversity; growing your own food; the importance of pollinators; how to build a rain garden; all about green infrastructure; and much more!


Get ready to explore your nearby nature and participate in an online Bioblitz every month! Grab your kids a magnifying glass, dust off those old binoculars and get your phones ready to take pictures of what the plants and critters you see. Make sure to download iNaturalist on your smart phones ahead of time so you can upload your pictures and become a citizen scientist! Join our project on iNaturalist “Ecology Ottawa’s Bioblitz 2020” and start contributing your observations today!

The whole family can be a biodiversity champion! Check out these Biodiversity Bingo cards below that you and your kids can use while out bioblitz-ing! We’ve got 2 different levels to choose from. Don’t forget to take a picture of your child’s observations and upload it to iNaturalist!

We’ll also be hosting workshops that will go into more detail about a certain topic and provide you with project materials. These will be offered at various price points depending on your preferences.
