EcoTeams

If you want to get more involved in helping to fight climate change, EcoTeams may be for you. With only a small amount of your time, and working with like-minded people, you can start to make a difference.

EcoTeam-logoThe EcoTeam program requires only 4 meetings of 1.5 to 2 hours each which take place every 10 to 14 days. A participant leads the meetings with the help of scripts contained in a program booklet. In order to provide ample time for the sharing of views, the teams are comprised of only 5 to 8 members. With this format, EcoTeams are a fun activity to do with neighbours, friends, colleagues, or members of a family, faith or civic organization, while they raises awareness of the little things we can all do daily to be more eco friendly.

Please consider joining an EcoTeam. For people who are already doing what they can to reduce their carbon footprint, we would be most appreciative if you would put your name forward to lead a team.

To find out more, to join a group, or to obtain help with creating a group, please contact Karen Hawley, Ecology Ottawa Community Network Coordinator, email: karen.hawley@ecologyottawa.ca; phone: 613-860-5353.

* The EcoTeam concept has been developed by the Empowerment Institute. Over the past two decades the Institute has been developing behavior change programs and managing community empowerment projects throughout the world. As a result they have built up a substantial and rigorously tested body of knowledge and experience about how to empower individuals, neighborhoods and communities to adopt pro-environmental behaviors, including the Low Carbon Diet.

A Quote for Inspiration

A life of activism gives hope, which is a moral imperative in this world. It gives us energy and it gives us direction. You meet the nicest people, you help transform ideas and systems and you commit to leaving the earth in at least as whole a condition as you inherited it.”

                                                                                                                                                 — Maude Barlow
