Tree Giveaways

This spring and summer, Ecology Ottawa is embarking on our largest tree giveaway in Ottawa’s history! We have 15,000 seedlings that are looking for new homes.

You may be wondering, how on earth we are going to give away that many trees over the course of a few months?

We’re planning to be at dozens of community events and festivals across the city during the summer. We’re partnering with schools, community associations and local groups to deliver trees through their networks. In previous years, Ecology Ottawa has seen unprecedented demand for trees – residents are eager to green up the capital!

We have begun to compile our tree giveaway events for 2020 – click here to see a list of events where you can pick up a free seedling next year. (a list of tree giveaway events from last year can be found here)

We’re delivering trees to individuals so they can plant them on private property. We’ve already worked alongside the City and other partners to ensure new trees are planted on public lands and rural private property. The next step for a vibrant urban tree canopy recovering from the Emerald Ash Borer crisis is a robust urban ecosystem. Eager to bring home a sapling? Watch out for us at local events throughout the summer!

Thank you for your support! We would also like to thank our generous funders: the Ontario Trillium Foundation, the Jim MacNeill family, Ontario 150 and the Community Foundation of Ottawa.

Together, we can help Ottawa become greener, healthier and more resilient!
