Montreal Road Open House – Thursday, March 9

The City of Ottawa has announced an Open House on the future of the Montreal Road corridor between North River Road and St. Laurent Boulevard. It will take place on Thursday, March 9th from 5:30 pm to 8 pm at the Wabano Centre for Aboriginal Health (299 Montreal Rd).

This is your chance to speak up for complete streets in Ottawa! Let’s make Montreal Road a corridor that’s safe and accessible for all users. Let us know you’re going by clicking here.

Highlights of the Montreal Road plan include:

  • Protected intersections at Montreal Road + North River Road, and Montreal Road + Vanier Parkway (video on protected intersections: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yMt6DCInmQE). These would be the first protected intersections in Ottawa.
  • Cycle track westbound, from St. Laurent Boulevard to the Vanier Parkway.
  • Bike lane eastbound, from Vanier Parkway to St Laurent.
  • No new bike infrastructure from Vanier Parkway to North River Road.

We hope you can make it!

Ecology Ottawa, why nothing about transit? Why the focus solely on bike infrastructure?

Hi Kev. We’re excited about the prospect of Montreal Road becoming a complete street – which means better access to transit as well as a safe and healthy corridor for cyclists and pedestrians. From what we saw from the early plans, most of the positive changes on Montreal Road would have to do with biking and walking, but increased transit connectivity, more bus stops and road designs that successfully integrate transit users’ needs are always a plus.
