Local Real Estate Company, Avison Young, puts their money where their mouth is, and buys 325 trees to plant with Tree Ottawa on RVCA land!
Real Estate Company Avison Young is giving back to Ottawa by purchasing and planting 325 trees on their company’s “Day of Giving”, October 15th from 9am-12pm. They will be planting at Chapman Mills, land that was cleared out by the Emerald Ash Borer, land owned by the Rideau Valley Conservation Authority.
“Ottawa is losing millions of trees to the Emerald Ash Borer, with hundreds of thousands being in the urban core.” Velta Tomsons Lead Organizer for Tree Ottawa, Ecology Ottawa’s million tree initiative says, “And we need more organizations to get involved and help re-plant those trees. We don’t have the capacity to do it ourselves, nobody does. That’s why we need to work together, and that’s why this story is so important!”
Avison Young approached Tree Ottawa with an interest to help at one of the pre-organized tree plantings on their “Day of Giving”. It wasn’t long before they decided to buy the trees themselves in order to help re-plant Ottawa in the wake of the Emerald Ash Borer.
“The financial cost to purchase 325 trees is not unmanageable for a company like Avison Young,” says Tomsons, “It’s an easy way to give back to the community, and we hope more companies see this as a way to get involved and give back.”
Avison Young has 2064 employees across Canada, U.S, UK and Germany that are all taking part in their Day of Giving initiative on October 15th.
