OTTAWA (January 20th, 2015) – Ecology Ottawa, in collaboration with RBC, will be hosting the first of a 3 part series of Tree Ottawa workshops this Tuesday, January 20th, at the Centerpointe RBC branch. If you want to know how to protect, plant, and promote Ottawa trees, these workshops are the place to be!
“With Ottawa losing over 20 million Ash trees in the next 3-5 years, it is essential that more Ottawans get involved. This is why we have organized our Workshops: to give people the information they need to help in any way they can.” said Velta Tomsons, Tree Ottawa Organizer.
Tree Ottawa has planned these workshops at locations across Ottawa, so as many Ottawans as possible will be able to attend;
Tuesday January 20th – Centerpointe RBC branch – 7-9pm
Tuesday January 27th – Hazeldean RBC branch – 7-9pm
Tuesday February 3rd – Convent Glen RBC Branch – 7-9pm
At the Workshops there will be presentations from Ecology Ottawa, Tree Ottawa, the City of Ottawa, local Community Associations, citizen tree experts, and words from the local councillor. Topics will range from “how to plant trees on your property”, to “why local native trees are important”. “Trees are a fundamental element of our ecosystem and contribute to the urban landscapes by providing shade, noise barriers, food and beauty.” Tomsons says, “Let’s all work together to ensure Ottawa has a strong and plentiful tree canopy!”
