Volunteers needed!!
At 5:30-7 pm on Wednesday October 22, Tree Ottawa will be hosting an information to gather interested volunteers looking to help our Tree Team over the upcoming months. Please join us to discuss various volunteer opportunities to help Ecology Ottawa obtain their goal of planting 1 million trees for Canada’s 150th year! Please RSVP here!!
Presumably there will be a need for lots of people to spend a bit of time digging and such. While many wonderful community members will no doubt step forward in their neighborhoods, give some thought to involving those who must serve community service orders. I’m not thinking here about high school students and their need to put in volunteer hours, although that would be a great source of labor, but of those sentenced by the courts to perform service as part of their probation. And of those given the option of pre-charge diversion. The Salvation Army and other placement organizations have considerable trouble finding appropriate volunteer opportunities for such people. Not only could those members of the community give back in a way that helps them complete their sentence, or meet the requirements for diversion, but such meaningful volunteer activity could be significant to them and help their restoration and rehabilitation.
Good afternoon Sandy,
Thank-you for this idea! A demographic we haven’t tried to integrate into our initiative. Do you have any contacts?
Best regards,
