Position: Environmental Canvasser

Do you enjoy being outdoors? Are you passionate about environmental issues and comfortable communicating with others? Ecology Ottawa is seeking self-motivated environmentalists to join our door-to-door canvass team. Our canvass raises awareness of our issues on the doorstep, and raises funds to support our projects and campaigns.

  • The hours are 3:30pm to 9:30pm weekdays

Position: Outreach Associate (10 week summer job)

Work Tasks and Responsibilities:
The Outreach Associate will be responsible for overseeing the Ecology Ottawa booth at festivals and events throughout the summer. This will involve training volunteers and coordinating the boothing schedule. Ensuring materials are provided for the booth is part of the responsibility, as is creating any new materials that are required for the booth.

The Outreach Associate will also assist in preparations for Ecology Ottawa’s Annual Dinner. This will involve calling farms and restaurants for food donations and any other tasks the organizing team needs help with.
Finally, the Outreach Associate will be involved in our public outreach by helping with other forms of public outreach and engagement.

The successful candidate will have a combination of:
• Demonstrated experience in volunteer management
• Excellent phone and in-person presentation manner
• Passion for environmental issues and community organizing
• Background in political science, environmental studies, management, or other related field
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and French, bilingualism would be a bonus
• Ability to work independently, as well as in a small team, and can manage multiple projects and responsibilities simultaneously
• Demonstrated interest in municipal and environmental issues

Necessary Eligibility Requirements:
• between the ages of 15 and 30 (inclusive) at the time of intake/selection
• full time student in Spring 2012 and plans to return to full time studies in Fall 2012
• Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or persons who have been granted refugee status in Canada
• legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations
• not in receipt of Employment Insurance (EI) benefits.

Terms of Position:
June 4, 2012 – Aug 10, 2012, 37.5 hrs/week
Remuneration: $10.25/hr
